Gears by Chance

Gears are simple machines.  Some kinds of gears are: 40 tooth gears, 24 tooth gears, rack gears, worm gears, and cam gears to name a few.  There is also the driver gear and the followers gear.  You can find a gear in clocks and in  lego mechanisms.  A gear is a rotating machine part with cut teeth.  They may be on wheels or cylinders.  Gears have parts with teeth to change speed or direction.

Simple machines make life, jobs, and other peoples' lives easier.  Gears are a simple machine. There are two important gears. The big one is called the driver gear,  the small one is called the follower gear.  Simple machines are everywhere. Simple machines make life easier. We wouldn't live without them! They are really cool!
Simple machines  =  EASY!

Gears by Edward and Josh

Simple machines are a big help in life.  We can't do a lot without simple machines.  They make work faster and easier.  A scientist came and showed us how gears work.  Here are some examples of simple machines: a pulley, wedges, screw, inclined planes, wheel and axle.  There are a lot of simple machines.
Gears are a circles with bumps on the edges.  The picture shows an example of  a gear a car has gear to move the wheels.  There can be several gears working together.  The bumps on the gears are called teeth.  The teeth are what turns gears.
We built sweepers with Lego's.  There are little gears, big gears,
and medium gears.
Gears are in many different sizes and shapes and that's how gears work.

Pulleys By: Sydney and Constance

A pulley is a wheel with a groove. A rope fits in the groove.  A single fixed pulley is attached to the load instead of any other object.  This type of pulley changes the direction the load moves.  The groove helps heep the rope or chain in place.  As you pull the rope, the wheel turns. Moveable pulleys making lifting things easier. Moveable pulleys are often used with fixed pulleys. A flagpole has a single fixed pulley. Pulling down on the rope raises the flag. Moving the rope in the opposite direction  lowers the flag. As you pull the rope, the wheel turns. Using a pulley you can pull very heavy objects and it seems easier.

A pulley is a wheel with a groove. A
rope fits in the groove. For an example, a flag is pulley. The groove helps keep the rope or chain stay in place. As you pull the rope, the wheel turns. Using

Cranes use fixed pulleys  and movable pulleys to lift heavy loads.

A pulley is a simple machine. Pulleys make lifting easier. If you have one pulley on one rope, you are pulling that same exact weight. If you have two pulleys on one rope. with a hundred lbs. you are only pulling 50 lbs., but you have to pull twice as far.   We learned about pulleys in school. We got to pull down with a pulley and watch the load move up.    N.D.S.U. came over to our school and we got to build cars with Lego's.  we got to pull a pulley with one ropes that one was way heavier then the one with six ropes.  The one with six ropes was easier to pull but you had to pull it further.
Aren't pulleys fun to learn about?

Pulleys are simple machines that helps us lift heavy objects. If I have two pulleys and the load weighs 100 lbs. it goes down to 50lbs but you have to pull twice as far. Here are some examples of pulleys: escalator, flagpole, and a conveyor belt. At grocery stores they have a conveyor belt.Pulleys can also roll things like food, empty lunch trays...almost anything! Most pulleys are circles or ovals. Pulleys can also be used on cranes.  A pulley is really a type of wheel.  Pulley were invented in Sicily in 250 B.C. Aren't pulleys fun to learn about?

Pulleys are simple machines that has a wheel (or more than one wheel) with a groove.  The groove helps keep something like a rope or even a chain in its place.  Using a pulley  you can move or lift things that are heavy.  A person pulls on one end and it lifts the load on the other end.  Pulleys make it easy to lift things.  An escalator has pulleys at the top and bottom.    Flag poles are an example of pulleys.  Pulleys are very important in our life.We love PULLEYS!!!   :)  :)  :)

Simple machines  make work faster and  easier.  Here are some examples of  simple  machines: pulleys, wedges, screws, and gears.  Here are some examples of  pulleys: flagpole, and conveyor belt.  Pulleys help you lift objects when it is too heavy.     A wedge is a simple machine.  Here are some examples of wedges: ax, teeth, knife, and nail.  A wedge is an object that split things in half.  Simple machines are magnificent.

Levers by Maddy

A lever is a simple machine.   A simple machine is machine that makes works easier and faster.  Simple machines help us with our everyday needs.   Did you know that you use simple machines every day?
For example,  a door stop, which is a wedge, is a simple machine that we use at home and at school.
There are many different kinds of levers. Here are some examples.  A hammer pulling out a nail is a first class lever.  A wheel barrow is a second class lever and there are many others!Levers are very cool!

Wedges by Mia and Anna

A wedge is a simple machine. Simple machines make work easier and faster.   You can use a wedge to cut, split, or push. Did you know that a knife is a wedge?  Teeth, scissors, the blade in a bobcat, and zippers are also wedges. Most cutting tools have a wedge.  Wedges can hold objects
together.   An ax is a wedge used to cut wood. Wedges can split diferent kind of objects.  We love wedges!!

Simple Machines by Mrs. B.'s Class

Simple machines make work faster and easier. There are many types of simple.  We are learning about simple machines in order to be great scientists.  We are learning about simple machines so that we can be great engineers.  Some examples of simple machines are: pulleys, gears, levers, wheel and axle, wedges, inclined planes, screws, to name a few.
When learning about simple machines, it's important to know how to figure ratios and to know our fractions.   When you have 2 pulleys, it takes half of the force needed off.  But remember, you don't have as much weight to pull, but you have to pull the rope of the pulley twice as far.
When we pulled on a pulley with 6 pulleys on it, it took only 1/6 of the weight, but we have to pull it "6" times as far.
